Elmwood Park: Inaugural meeting of their cooking club

November 15, 2017

Elmwood Park cooking club11BThe halls of Generations at Elmwood Park were buzzing with excitement and anticipation. The facility is re-introducing the cooking club after a hiatus.  The inaugural meeting was to get a feel for what the residents would like to cook as well as reviewing recipes.  This is a new monthly activity that will cover a variety of yummy treats and some residents’ homemade recipes!

The meeting started in the dining room with Shavon from the activity department presenting the residents with a selection of options for future cooking club activities.  The residents previewed a plethora of recipes like spicy veggie quesadillas, spaghetti & turkey meatballs and broccoli cheddar casserole.  The residents also visited memory lane as they spoke about their favorite recipes as well.

The group voted and engaged with each and decided they wanted to maintain their healthy diets and decided no spice in the quesadillas.  They also discussed the health benefits of the recipes like using turkey meat instead of beef or pork.  The cooking club will serve as a therapeutic purpose for our residents.  It will offer an excellent opportunity for socializing and participating in a fun and rewarding group activity. It will also be a great place for exercise and rehabilitation as it helps residents stay active.

Shavon also announced for the first cooking class she will don her official chef’s uniform as she is currently in cooking school.  Go Shavon! At the end of the meeting- residents enjoyed fresh baked cookies that were baked on site.

Stay tuned for pictures of future cooking club results!
