Overall physical activity helps people of all ages, but as we age, certain activities may become harder to do. This causes a big percentage of those over 65 to live sedentary lifestyles. In reality, just 20 minutes of brisk activity can help:
- decrease the risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes AND some forms of cancer
- decrease the chances of injury due to imbalance and weakness of joints
- it can lower your overall pain
- improve your mental health and mood, helps manage anxiety and steer away depression
- improves cognitive ability; problem solve, learn and think
Caution
If you already have an existing health condition like diabetes, heart disease or obesity – please talk to your doctor first to see what the right amount / type of physical activity is right for you!
Aerobic Activity

This may include swimming, walking, running, biking or any oxygen intensive activity like cutting the grass or gardening.
